Fernán Caballero era el seudónimo utilizado por la escritora española Cecilia Böhl de Faber y Larrea (Morges, Cantón de Vaud, Suiza, 24 de diciembre de 1796 - Sevilla, España, 7 de abril de 1877).
La Gaviota -su obra más conocida y probablemente la más completa- cuenta por ejemplo la perversión de un personaje, Marisalada (aka la Gaviota ) que renuncia a todos los valores que Fernán Caballero consideraba esenciales (la familia, el terruño, la religión...) y que arrastra con ella a la desgracia a todos cuantos la rodean.
