FonoCultura is a series of books designed for kindergartners in Spanish Immersion programs. The series comprises thirty books ordered from reading levels A to C. These books focus on syllabic phonetics and syllabic division in Spanish. Throughout the series there is a phonetic progression within a cyclical management. Along with the phonetic component, the series uses high frequency words and regional vocabulary. The vocabulary networks are based on the traits and behaviors of the characters and their stories. The cultural component is authentic and is developed in a simple and direct way. To enhance understanding, there are comprehension questions at the end of each book. The setting of these stories is the rural area of a Hispanic country, and the stories center around the life of a Hispanic farming family. This series provides the teacher with an effective and comprehensive tool for reading development in the SI kindergarten classroom.
