Sinopsis del libro
In Entre dos Americas, Guillermina Walas explores the importance of memory for Latina authors. These authors are displaced from their familiar roots in Latin America and the Hispanic Caribbean, and find themselves immersed in their actual individual lives in the United States. These women construct or re-build a new Latina identity based on memory and the past, but also project to a future located in the Anglo-American context. The resulting identity is complex, riddled with cultural conflict that often involves class and gender. Walas analyzes many texts including, Silent Dancing: A Partial Remembrance of a Puerto Rican Childhood (1990) and When I was Puerto Rican (1993) by Judith Ortiz Cofer and Esmerelda Santiago, Dreaming in Cuban (1992) by Cristina Garcia, and How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents (1991) by Julia Alvarez.
